How to grow an oak tree by yourself
Planting material search
The first step is to collect material forlanding under an adult tree. Find a few strong fruits without any visible damage. Place the acorns in a glass of water and leave only those specimens that went to the bottom (if the acorn emerges, then most likely it has a spoiled core).
If there is no possibility to collect the acorns yourself, then get the seeds in the store.
Germination of the acorn
The next step is to get shoots for planting the future seedling.
The first step is to carefully wash the acorns withsoap and dry them well. Next, the fruits are placed in a wet cloth or a container of water (it is necessary to change the water every day). As soon as the first shoots are formed, you can plant a seedling in a pot. The process can take several weeks. Therefore, if there is no desire to tinker with seeds every day, you can skip this step and immediately begin planting an acorn.
For the production of oak, fertile soil is required. You can buy ready-made soil in a store or prepare the land yourself. For this, it is required to mix the soil with humus and enrich the mixture with minerals and fertilizers.
Planting a tree
Seeds or seedlings are planted in the autumn-spring period. Before the desired time of year, the acorns can be stored in the refrigerator.
For faster growth of oak, it is recommended to grow a tree for a year and only then transplant the plant into the open ground.
- Prepare a container for planting oak, first making holes in the bottom to remove excess water;
- Fill the pot with half the soil and plant the seed or seedling, sprinkling the fruit on the ground;
- Moisten the soil;
- Do not forget to water the plant regularly, and also to change the flower pots in time (the capacity should be wider as the tree grows).
